Teams and AI, Working Together in Real Time

Lightfast is an applied AI lab building systems where product and engineering teams design, build, and ship with AI in real time.

We develop the primitives that make this possible: models, interfaces, infrastructure, and evals tested in real products.

Inside The Work

Most AI tools still sit outside the work. They answer questions, write drafts, summarize documents, and generate options around tools that were designed before models could participate in the work itself.

That is useful, but it is not enough for teams building together.

Product and engineering work changes while it is happening. A design shifts. A constraint appears. A branch gets explored. A review changes the direction. A deployment exposes a new problem. The system has to keep up with the artifact, the conversation, the constraints, and the decisions being made.

Lightfast builds systems where AI can participate while the work is happening: seeing what is changing, acting on shared context, helping teams explore and compare directions, taking feedback, and responding in time to matter.

Primitives, Not Features

The hard problem is not adding a chat box to every tool. The hard problem is building the primitives that let teams and models work together while artifacts are changing.

That means model behavior designed for real-time collaboration. Interfaces where people can interrupt, steer, branch, compare, and decide. Infrastructure for shared context, artifact state, permissions, and history. Evals that show whether the system understood intent, preserved constraints, improved the artifact, and helped the team make progress.

We build products to test those primitives directly.

Starting With Product And Engineering

We start with software and product design because the loop is fastest.

Teams already move between ideas, interfaces, code, reviews, deployments, bugs, and customer feedback. The boundaries between design, implementation, and shipping are collapsing. That makes it the right place to learn what real-time collaboration with models should feel like.

Research Through Products

Lightfast is a lab because we use products to investigate hard applied AI problems.

Research gives us the language and experiments to understand what is changing. Products force those ideas to survive contact with real teams, real artifacts, and real constraints. The best questions appear when people are trying to build something and the system has to help while the work is still moving.

We expect to share what we learn through research notes, technical posts, demos, evals, and code where useful.

Beyond Software

Software is the first wedge, not the boundary.

The same primitives matter wherever teams create systems with many constraints: buildings, machines, factories, infrastructure, vehicles, research labs, and physical-world operations. These domains make the collaboration problem sharper. The artifacts are richer. The stakes are higher. The cost of slow iteration grows.

We are starting where we can learn fastest so we can build toward systems that matter far beyond screens.

The Direction

We are building toward systems where teams and AI can explore, edit, compare, review, and decide together in real time.

That is what Lightfast is here to build.
